Q1) Tell us a little about yourself!
I am a 35 year old proud curvy woman who is a mumma, wifey and business owner of Hilary Holmes Makeup. I am equal parts a country girl, city chick and beach bunny after living all over. I am passionate, driven, assertive, resilient and strong. I love connecting with women, eating all the wrong foods, mental health advocacy and knowing Im doing everything I can to live a fulfilled life.
Q2) Tell us about what you do, and why you do it
HHM started with me leaving my career in Agricultural Science and pursued my passion for makeup over in London. 8 years after freelancing heavily in the UK and Australia I opened my first salon in Geelong and just 4 months ago I opened my second salon in South Melbourne Salon.
I use makeup as a vehicle to connect with women, to educate and support, to really give them the opportunity and space to see that they are so incredible- with or without makeup. Makeup has an incredible ability to show a women parts of themselves they might of not known were amazing.
Myself with the HHM team over the two stunning salons provide hair and makeup services for events, bridal and fashion work whilst also providing a beautiful experience and amazing customer service service!
I do all of this because of where I have come from, having used to being 135kg, severely bullied my whole life and being severely debilitated by depression and anxiety. I eventually decided to step out of my victim game and into my power and lost 50kg and worked transformationally on my shit to get on top of a lot of my mental health issues (its still a WIP).
Q3) What makes you feel courageous?
Being vulnerable, asking for help, admitting being wrong, creating boundaries, recognising my faults, being a mum- my own way, not being defensive, living an authentic life and being kind.
Q4) What is one thing you wish you could tell your 16-year-old self?
Theres a lot of things coming at you and a lot of feelings you have bubbling away, all for very good reason, You may feel unsupported, unloved and neglected but there’s going to be one constant in this life, one love and one person who will have your back every damn day and thats you. So you hold tight, rise strong and know, you are fucking worthy.
Q5) What is one piece of advice you can give a fellow lady who might be lacking courage?
How powerful and liberating to know that there is only one thing holding you back from achieving everything you ever wanted- and thats you. So get your arse into hear, call out your victim game and fuel that fire burning deep, because girl- you are fucking incredible. You might not know it, but people want to hear what you have to say, so get out there and speak your truth.
