My name is Iomikoe Johnson I'm 39 years old, a mother, wife, business owner, model-actress and advocate for vitiligo - which I have had for about 14 years, getting it at 25. For those who don't know what Vitiligo is, it's and autoimmune disorder that cause white patches to form upon the skin because the cells that make up the color of your skin die which mean I'm losing Melanin from my skin.
Q2) Tell us about what you do, and why you do it ?
Well... I'm a Model and I own my on cosmetics company - I pre launched our business this year with my business partner Lid’ya Moore, we pre launched our company this year at our World Vitiligo Conference and it was a hit - our company is called Perfectly Painted Cosmetics I pitched and idea to Lidya about Initially me starting a cosmetics line for women or individuals who feel different. A lot of women love to wear make up yes, but not a lot of women love to wear a face full of make up, with some people just want bits of pop!! So Lidya and I sell you that pop - we want to magnify your already perfectly painted skin. So we sell lip kits our products are plant base because of our skin being so sensitive. Because of our Vitiligo we build our company because we want women to know that they’re already perfectly painted. And you don’t necessarily need to have a face full of make up.
For over 12 years I covered my work of art, which is my skin, because of my fear of what people would think of me. I don’t do that anymore and so I wanted to show women that just because I don’t want to cover up my Vitiligo doesn’t mean that I don’t like wearing some sort of make up. I love wearing lashes, eyeshadows and lipsticks - I magnify my already perfectly painted skin.
We plan on launching our official website 2020 and having a launch party for our company and laughing other products. I model to show women you can be whoever you wanna be no matter if your different, different is beautiful and to be proud of the way God created you.
Q3) What makes you feel courageous?
My attitude - the way I face and overcome obstacles.
We all have challenges in life - it's not about the fall it's about how you get up again. I know I was created this way for a reason - I found my purpose and followed it which lead to me inspiring others. I can change my life, there's no cure for vitiligo, all I can do is live have courage and be the best person I can be and inspire people along the way.
Q4) What is one thing you wish you could tell your 16-year-old self?
To believe in yourself more. To trust that whatever obstacles you face you can overcome them. Try not to be so hard on yourself, take one day at a time and enjoy the moments. Cherish and appreciate the ones you love and don’t take life for granted - live to the fullest and do you - you’re enough!
Q5) What is one piece of advice you can give a fellow lady who might be lacking courage?
Life is not perfect, no matter how much it may seem on social media. Do what is best for you and what makes you happy. Our crowns may tilt, straighten it back and keep it moving - you win some you lose some - but life still goes on. Be happy and grateful - you may think you have bad but trust someone has it worst, and those people may need your strength. Love, Laugh and Live and be Courageous!
