Q1) Tell us a little about yourself!
I am an author and journalist who loves pop culture, Pizza, cheeseburgers, movies, concerts with friends, romantic comedies, things that make me laugh. I am a person who loves to be needed and a person who loves warm weather. Who I am, at my core, is a person who is finally excited about life.
Q2) Tell us about what you do, and why you do it.
I tell stories through books, short stories, articles, and poems. I tell the stories because I think they’re necessary and important. I talk to people for a living about pop-culture and I talk about my own experiences with pop culture because I like to figure out what makes people who they are and why? And I like discovering what makes me who I am and why and what that means when those things shift. and make a point to do the things professionally but make me happy and it made me feel like I’m actually saying something as a part of the larger conversation within identity and within journalism.
Q3) What makes you feel courageous?
I feel most courageous when I’m doing the things that I never thought possible for myself. In 2019, I published my first book titled ”the pretty one: on life, pop culture, disability, and other reasons to fall in love with me” that book is available now wherever books are sold. I felt courageous writing that book and when It came out into the world because I always dreamed of writing a book but I never knew for sure that it was possible for me, A black, disabled, bisexual woman. I felt courageous when I was on the today show in 2019 as well because for me courage comes in doing the things that scare you and recognizing that they scare you but doing them anyway.
Q4) What is one thing you wish you could tell your 16-year-old self?
You’re going to be okay, I promise. I love you for all that you are enough for the both of us.
