Q1) Tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Kimberly Holmes-Wiggins. I’m a television journalist who wakes up dark & early to anchor the morning newscast at WBOC-TV. The station covers news for the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Virginia & Delaware in the United States.

Q2) Tell us about what you do, and why you do it

I absolutely adore telling stories. I believe talking and communication is the best way to solve any problem. We all don’t need to agree, but if we could simply learn to truly listen to one another the world would be a better place. Besides being a journalist, I also run a widow/grief support site called Still His. It’s a personal passion project born out of the loss of my beloved husband, Rasheed Wiggins. I’ve learned that I handled grief all wrong. It’s not something “you get over” but rather something you learn to live with. Death changes the living, but that’s not a bad thing. It’s taught me what really matters in life. I will always love & treasure my time with Rasheed, but I’m also learning how to put one foot in front of the other and move forward in life. I also love teaching journalism and media courses at two local colleges. All of this simply means I run on a lot of caffeine, cupcakes & prayers!

Q3) What makes you feel courageous?

Enduring some pretty dark nights (and days) and fighting my way back to seeing the sun again. I’ve had many disappointments and survived things I never imagined would become part of my story. Learning how to smile after each battle is part of my armor. It doesn’t mean my life is easy or without problems; it often seems the happier I am, the more problems I have to figure out! However, learning to feel the negative, give it its time, and then shift my perspective so I can smile again, allows me to keep going. And each time I do, God blesses me — sometimes with simple things and other times with miracles.

Q4) What is one thing you wish you could tell your 16-year-old self?

Whew. Breathe, baby! Life is going to throw some difficult things at you. You will feel as if you can’t handle it. You will feel as if you’re breaking. You will bend, but not break. You are stronger and more magical than you could imagine. And above all else, smile for yourself. Lastly, there’s always something to be grateful for and you must never forget that truth.

Q5) What is one piece of advice you can give a fellow lady who might be lacking courage?

The world will often discount your worth. Listen to that still, small voice in your gut. It’s God. And you have more magic in you than anyone can imagine, but it’s up to you to get it out and share it.
