Marcela of The Journey of a Brave Woman
Q1) Tell us a little about yourself!
When I was 20 years old I sustained a spinal cord injury due to a drunk driver that paralyzed me from the waisted down, I also lost my left leg. I have a clothing apparel line that gives back to make the world an accessible place for all. I'm a disability fashion and traveler advocate. I travel the world to be the journal keeper of wheelchair users and bring awareness of wheelchair friendly countries. I love music and listening to podcasts.
Q2) Tell us about what you do, and why you do it
I believe that everyone should have equal access to the world. Those people in wheelchairs like myself constantly have to struggle with wheelchair access in our day to day life. I want to use my voice in all my social media platforms to bring awareness and educate others that if people with disabilities aren't equality treated our rights aren't being considered from the rest of society. We shouldn't keep fighting for access when there is an ADA law for everyone to follow. Wheelchair access is a necessity not a luxury and we need that to keep moving forward. This is why I'm so unspoken about wheelchair access because i want to be a voice for those who complains aren't being heard.
Q3) What makes you feel courageous?
What makes me courageous is that I have the strong will to show up regardless of the circumstances I might face for living with a disability. I live my life the way I want and that makes me courageous especially when I'm trying to change the world.
Q4) What is one thing you wish you could tell your 16-year-old self?
I honestly try to not regret anything in my life but If I have to go back to my sixteen year old years I would tell myself that I am m worthy of love and to love myself more. Sometimes when we are in love we loose ourselves in the process and it happens to everyone. If we programmed our mind since we are young to love ourselves more, we wouldn't have the time to loose ourselves for somebody else. i'm pretty proud of everything i have accomplished in my life and this is due to my courage and strength so I will tell my young self you are doing a great job keep moving forward.
Q5) What is one piece of advice you can give a fellow lady who might be lacking courage?
I will tell anyone that things happen for a reason. Sometimes our fears are stopping us from reaching what we want in life. when you are courageous you are free. when you are free you are happy. Let go of the things that hold you back and walk the great walk with grace and courage.
